Where to stay near N Seoul Tower

The tower stands on top of Namsan, a hill in the middle of Seoul, and this guide does not cover accommodation on the mountain itself. So "where to stay near N Seoul Tower" really means choosing a neighbourhood and a transport link. Seoul's official accommodation search groups listings by area, and three of its areas matter most for this trip: Myeongdong, Itaewon and Hongdae.

This page compares those areas by how you reach the cable car, the ring buses and the airport train. It does not name hotels, quote room rates or rank neighbourhoods, because the right base depends on your flight, your budget and how late you plan to be out. People who search for Seoul Tower hotels are usually asking the same question, and the answer starts with the map and the subway lines.

The meeting points in Hongdae, Myeongdong and City Hall show how well each area works as a base.

Myeongdong and Jung-gu

The area at the foot of Namsan, and the most direct link to the cable car.

Myeongdong is part of Jung-gu, not a separate city, and it is a shopping district, not the location of the tower itself. What makes it useful as a base is access: from Myeongdong station on Line 4, take exit 3, and the tower operator gives 10 to 15 minutes on foot to the cable car valley station at 83 Sopa-ro. The ride up takes about 3 minutes. No walking time from a particular accommodation to the tower is available, so check the distance from your own address on a map.

For the airport, airport bus 6015 serves Myeongdong, Chungmuro and Hoehyeon, and by train you change at Seoul Station to Line 4. More about the neighbourhood is on the Myeongdong page, and the cable car details are on the Namsan cable car page.

Itaewon

A different line, a different approach.

Itaewon is reached on subway Line 6, and the city's page for the Antique Furniture Street gives exit 4 of the Itaewon station. Do not mix this up with the Line 4 approach to the cable car. A direct ring bus from Itaewon to the tower is not something to count on, so plan the trip by subway and then by cable car or by bus 01A or 01B once you are near the mountain. Check your route on a map before you book.

Hongdae

The area on the airport train line.

The airport railroad stops at Hongik University station, the stop for Hongdae, and from there you can change to Line 2. That gives Hongdae a different airport connection from Myeongdong, which the city connects via Seoul Station and Line 4. The all-stop train serves Hongik University, so check which train you board.

A two-day guided Seoul tour lists meeting points at Hongik University station exit 3, Myeongdong station exit 9 and City Hall station exit 6. It includes an air-conditioned vehicle, all fees and taxes and a guide, which suits you if Hongdae or Myeongdong is your base. Read the itinerary on the offer before you rely on it for the tower.

Choosing by airport connection

If you arrive tired, let the airport link decide. Myeongdong works well with the airport bus or with the Express plus Line 4. Hongdae sits on the all-stop train line. Itaewon is reached on Line 6, so plan the onward subway ride. Fares, times and the zone taxi tariff are on the Incheon Airport to Seoul page, and Gimpo Airport is covered there too.

Hotels near Namsan

For hotels near Namsan, look at the city streets around the hill and compare them by transport link, not just by distance on the map. Whatever you choose, check the cancellation terms, ask how far the nearest subway exit is and read recent guest comments about noise and stairs.
