N Seoul Tower at night: sunset and the city lights
N Seoul Tower at night is the reason many visitors climb Namsan after dark. The tower stands on top of the mountain at 105 Namsangongwon-gil in Yongsan-gu, and from the terraces and the hillside paths the lights of Seoul spread out in every direction. This page covers the evening side of a visit: the hours that apply, what the tower lights do, where to eat and which night tours stop at the tower.
One thing to know first. On 31 October 2026 the operator's English homepage carried the notice "OBSERVATORY TEMPORARILY CLOSED" without naming a period. Check the current operating status before you travel up the mountain and before you buy an observatory ticket, and read the regular hours on this page as the standard schedule, not as a statement about tonight. The cable car, the buses and the walking routes are separate services with their own hours.

Our picks: evening tours around the tower
Our take: the night walk covers the tower, Namsan Park and Myeongdong with a one-way cable car ride, while the palace and market evening is a different kind of night out that does not go up the tower.

Sunset and the city lights
The operator describes sunset and the night view as the time many people choose for a visit, and the cable car operator warns of more crowding at those hours. Queues can be longer on weekdays around sunset and on weekend and public-day-off afternoons. The time of sunset changes through the year, so look up the time for your date instead of planning around one fixed hour.
The view reaches up to 50 km, but only in clear weather. On a hazy evening expect less, and treat a clear sky as a bonus rather than something to count on. If you want both the last daylight and the first lights, arrive well before sunset and stay on the mountain while the city switches on. The paths of Namsan Park give you more room outdoors than the tower terraces do.
Evening hours
The observatory's regular hours are Monday to Friday 10:00 to 22:30 and Saturday, Sunday and public days off 10:00 to 23:00, with the last admission 30 minutes before closing. That puts the last entry at 22:00 on weekdays and 22:30 at the weekend. The operator reserves the right to change hours because of weather and other circumstances, and the tower can close when access to the park is restricted. Details are on the opening hours page.
The Namsan cable car runs from 10:00 to 23:00. Its last sale is described differently by the tourism organisation, which lists 22:30 for a round trip and 22:45 for a one-way ticket, and by the operator, which says 30 minutes before closing. Do not plan on a one-way ride after 22:30. The two circular buses, 01A and 01B, run from 06:30 to 23:00. More on the ride itself is on the cable car page.
If you want to go inside, read the observatory page and the ticket page first, and remember the operating notice mentioned at the top of this page.
Tower lights and media art
The operator describes changing LED colours and patterns on the tower, and the city tourism site describes OLED media installations inside the complex. Those are separate things: the installations are indoors, the lights are on the tower. Treat the lights as part of the view rather than as a timed performance, and do not arrange your evening around a particular minute.
Dinner at N Seoul Tower
Three restaurants are listed on the tower's floor plan. n.GRILL is a French restaurant on Tower 7F, HANCOOK serves Korean food on Tower 3F and THE PLACE Dining is Italian on Tower 2F. According to the tower's FAQ you can reach THE PLACE Dining without an observatory ticket, while n.GRILL and HANCOOK are reached by the elevator in the tower complex.
If you reserve a table at n.GRILL, the operator states that reservation holders receive free observatory tickets. Ask at the time of booking how that works for your date, and check the observatory status before you rely on it. Menus and prices change, so look at the current menu on the day.
Seoul night tours
If you would rather have a guide, several night tours include the tower area. One four-hour evening walk with a local English-speaking guide covers N Seoul Tower, Namsan Park and Myeongdong, includes a one-way cable car ticket and leaves the observatory ticket as an optional extra paid on site. Another night walk that starts in Myeongdong also includes a one-way cable car ticket with a professional local guide; the observatory is extra there as well.
A different kind of evening is the night palace and market food tour, with a licensed guide, a vehicle between the stops and a set list of tastings such as Korean pancakes, tteokbokki and dumplings. That tour does not visit the tower. Compare the options on the tours page and read what each one includes before you book.
Namsan Night Festival 2026
The city announced the Namsan Night Festival for 23 October to 14 November 2026. Some of its programmes at Yejang Park, Baekbeom Square and Palgak Square need a registration in advance. It is a seasonal event, not a daily feature of the tower, and it does not mean the park requires a reservation. A separate Namsan Night Trail is planned for 21 November 2026 from 19:00 to 21:00, a walk of about 3 km from Namsangol Hanok Village via Jamdubong to the Octagonal Pavilion.
Getting up and down in the evening
Private car access to Namsan has been restricted since 1 May 2005, and taxis do not drive up to the front entrance. In the evening you have the cable car, buses 01A and 01B, or a walk. Buses cost 1,500 KRW with a transport card and run until 23:00. Plan your way back down before you go up. Route details are on the getting there page.
